Samizu Matsuki: Memories, Dreams, Reflections (A work in progress)

We are fortunate in Samizu having been a prolific diarist in the years when she  painted her most significant works.  "Significant"  as in expressing themes  of those times on earth, as opposed to  portraits and land- and sea-scapes, which as a working artist  she painted more than 100. Samizu learns to draw and to paint. 3pgs     childhood_art_excerpts.pdf . Lights on the Sea. A childhood memoir. 25 pages     lights_on_the_sea_full.pdf . List of Samizu's schools, and a memoir from childhood through high school. 4pgs Life during and after the war, 1936 to 1946.10pgs   samizu_life_during_after_ww2_1936_1946.pdf . Outreach on Samizu's Murals 2021

From: dreamyshade Britta Gustafson Subject: Re: Seeking Isla Vista mural from early 1980s   Thank you for the sketch! It's cool to learn about another Isla Vista mural that I didn't know about before. The building is currently empty, since the owner plans to open a restaurant but is waiting for a better time to open it. It would be very helpful to know which wall - my friend knows the owner and could at least ask some questions. You could also reach out to the UCSB Special Collections library and see if they have may have any materials on this: www.library.ucsb.edu/special-collections A few years ago I requested and looked at the box listed here labeled "Murals (b/w and color prints, and slides), 1974-1977": www.oac.cdlib.org/findaid/ark:/13030/ft9779p11z/dsc/#aspace_ref1491_xy2 But that set of slides stops too early, and I don't remember seeing this mural in there.
