Re: Seeking Isla Vista mural from early 1980s

Thank you for the sketch! It's cool to learn about another Isla Vista mural that I didn't know about before. The building is currently empty, since the owner plans to open a restaurant but is waiting for a better time to open it.

It would be very helpful to know which wall - my friend knows the owner and could at least ask some questions.

You could also reach out to the UCSB Special Collections library and see if they have may have any materials on this:

www.library.ucsb.edu/special-collections

A few years ago I requested and looked at the box listed here labeled "Murals (b/w and color prints, and slides), 1974-1977":

www.oac.cdlib.org/findaid/ark:/13030/ft9779p11z/dsc/#aspace_ref1491_xy2

But that set of slides stops too early, and I don't remember seeing this mural in there.

Hello! That is a great question - I don't know. I wrote down everything I know about that building at localwiki.org/islavista/Sun_and_Earth - if you scroll to the end of the page, I have a note that it became an Indian restaurant after it was a spa. I'll ask around my IV friends and see if I know anyone who knows anything.

Oh, my friend in IV just sent me a photo he took of the interior of the building, near where you enter it. In that photo I don't see any murals with waves, just white walls and some restaurant fixtures. Do you know where in the building the mural was? Was it inside or on the back patio?
